A nice looking game and unique take on the theme, but the theme-fitting mechanic didn't show up until level 11. the first 10 levels were incredibly easy with 1-4 enemies max, and then level 11 introduced the mechanic with no explanation and like 20 enemies. after that I never saw the mechanic used in a different way.

I'd like to see a better difficulty curve and overall flow. right now, all levels are either too tame or too hectic

Edit: I still say it would have been nice if the tutorial was integrated into the main game, and the new mechanic was introduced at a less hectic point.

Thank you for your feedback, GeoKureli!
However I can contradict you in some points, as the game works exactly as I want:

The first floors are for the "build-up" and leaves the opportunity to take some power-ups; the number and types of enemies increase with the floor increasing.
The game starts to engage in the middle of the floors.

In the main menu there's the tutorial button, which explain every single game instance, so you are prepared to face up the game.

My mistake was not making it mandatory to follow, as it is normal to feel lost with this mechanic.

cool atmosphere but why is it 100x slower than it needs to be?

Edit: Chrome I'll PM a video of it happening, maybe it's a vsync issue?

HartfordGames responds:

can I ask what browser your playing on? it's not meant to be slow.

Really cool game! the controls become unwieldy and fast at the end but it's got a lot of replay value

Edit: replay value comes from trying different options early on, like the hat, money and keys
Edit: Oh i had no choice in buying the hat :(

adriendittrick responds:

Thanks :)
I'll admit that "replay value" is not what I had in mind when making this game though :p

cool concept, usually pretty fair. I didn't like that he goes right back to the girl that broke his heart, though. would be cool to see this expanded

porwaltz responds:

Thanks. It's their first date. The broken heart is from an old relation. I'm thinking about an expanded version.

I don't like accidentally dragging things on the wrong square and having to restart. The keyboard is more precise but I don't like switching. I'd rather the game require me to release the mouse to accept my chosen destination, or have an undo (preferably both).

I find the levels more fumbly and tedious than actually challenging. I'd like to see a sequel to this with the kinks ironed out (and maybe some new mechanics). The dragging could be less clunky too.

The art and audio are fantastic, of course

Diemorth responds:

This control thing is really complicated to find a point where it is totally perfect, I think the most comfortable could be to use the mouse to select and the keyboard to actually move, you really lose some precision using just the mouse. :t

Glad to see interest in a future release c: There's nothing planned for Arcandies yet, but new projects are sure to bring some challenge! c: Stay tuned!

Thank you for playing! ;D

Nicely done, but it's hard to vote higher when a game like Rust Bucket exists. This is basically all the tedious parts of Rust Bucket, with less polish. looking forward to your next game, but not a fan of this one, sorry :(

nyunesu responds:

Haha, don't worry! Nitrome stuff is amazing, I feel you (:

Thank you for playing it and for the honest review!

Cool game, nicely executed, but it takes a bit to get going. Maybe have multiple pickups out at once to reduce the tediousness?

Edit: please just make space restart instead of R, and stop making me replay the intro every time

CMulholland responds:

Thanks for the feedback Geo. You can simply press any arrow key after you die to start again. R is for going back to the main menu.

Cool game, more than a few levels are just tedious and don't really have any lateral thinking other than "detangle a complex mess" or "that thing you did early on screwed you over later". however more of the levels were fun, than not. An undo would have relieved that a bit.

otherwise cool game, the simple audio/graphics worked nicely

Edit: +1 star for undo and glad you found use of the API!

Rob1221 responds:

Thanks for the Haxe API for Newgrounds you made which I used in this game to get medals working (made in Stencyl, which is based on OpenFL).

saw it coming

Edit: Voted low because it's not fun or original. Not sure why you're surprised by this score

RProduction responds:

Hello GeoKureli!
At the end of the game there is no screamer, do not be afraid and put me low scores! I do not want to be afraid of my games, I want to enjoy them!
Thanks for understanding!
